Mitzi Lee Mills McConnell, age 73, went peacefully to heaven on February 11, 2024 in Mobile Alabama after a fierce battle against lung disease. Mitzi was born on Valentine’s Day (February 14) in 1950 in Mobile, Alabama to Voncile and James Mills. She grew up in Mobile and attended Davidson High School until 1965, when her family moved to Perry, Georgia. In 1968 Mitzi graduated from Perry High School where she was crowned homecoming queen. She then attended college in Georgia and worked in Atlanta, Georgia until she followed her heart home to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Mitzi came home to Mobile in 1973 when she attended the OOM ball and met her husband, Eddie McConnell. The rest, as they say, is history. Mitzi and Eddie got married on July 12, 1975 at Springhill Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama.
Mitzi was a kind, gentle soul who brightened the lives of all she touched with love. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her grandchildren called her “Mudder.” Mitzi had a deep faith in the Lord and passed on this faith to her two daughters and five grandchildren. Her greatest wish was for them to know and love God as she did. She was a precious gift who will forever be missed in our hearts.
Mitzi was preceded in death by her parents, Voncile Reddoch and James Russell Mills and grandparents Ethel and George Reddoch. She is survived by her husband Edwin Whitfield McConnell and two daughters, Melissa Lee McConnell Fuselier (Prentice) and Kimberlee Anne McConnell Duck (Jeremy); five grandchildren, John Prentice Fuselier, Jr., Stella Jane Fuselier, Celia Anne Duck, Audrey Louise Duck and Olivia Bradford Duck; her brother Robert Glendon Mills (Elsie) and her beloved nephew Robert Glendon Mills, Jr.; her sister in law Mary Louise McConnell Layden, her Cavalier King Charles spaniel Lucy and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday February 16, 2024 at Springhill Baptist Church with visitation starting at 2:00 PM until the time of the 3:15 PM service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to The Cavalier Rescue at 5330 Technology Lane, Birmingham, Alabama 35217 or the Child Advocacy Center at 1351 Spring Hill Avenue, Mobile, Alabama 36604.
