Mary Elizabeth Rose Rogers, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 in Mobile, Alabama. She was born to Arthur Andrew Rose and Bertha Amanda Dean Rose on November 9, 1930 in Mobile. Mary graduated from Theodore High School, Class of 1947, and received LPN training at Southwest State Technical Institute. She was a strong independent woman, and loved her family fiercely. When her mother’s and son’s health began to decline, Mary quit her work as an LPN and began her life-long calling in the role of caretaker. Her absolute priority was taking care of her family. Mary was a quick-witted woman who loved to laugh, and spent time instilling her values of loyalty, intelligence, and humor in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a lover of classical music, and attended the symphony regularly – which paved the way for two of her children to study the violin. Mary loved camping out on family trips, vacationing in the Smokey Mountains, and the family fish fries, hosted by her sister Grace Lilly. She had a talent for sewing, gardening, cooking, and canning, and making her home a sanctuary of joy and comfort to everyone who graced her doorstep.
Mary was a generous soul. She never put herself first, and she never wanted to. Her family came first with every breath she took. Mary was one of the most kind-hearted people who ever lived. She is greatly loved, and will be terribly missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Eli Eben Rogers, “Junior”; first-born daughter, Lillie Jeanette Rogers; her father, Arthur Andrew Rose; her precious mother, Bertha Amanda Rose; sisters, Gertrude Grace Lilly and Helen Marie Cannon; and brothers, Edgar “Rick” Rose and Arthur Andrew Rose, Jr.
She is survived by her children, Barry Allen Rogers (Terry), Ruth Marie Rogers, and Timothy Eli Rogers; grandchildren, Lisa Catherine Williams, Brad Allen Rogers, James Michael Logan, Jr., and Danielle Elizabeth Logan; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Jewell Williams (Lorraine), Emily Jade “Shadow” Williams, and Sophia Noelani Parker; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Mary will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
