Mary Ann Weissinger Johnson

Mary Ann Weissinger Johnson, born in Opelika, Ala. and a lifelong resident of Mobile, Ala. passed away Monday, September 19, 2011. Mrs. Johnson was a devoted wife and mother, and particularly loved spending time with her family. She was an avid reader, accomplished seamstress and wonderful cook. Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Shaw High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Alabama. As an elementary school teacher for seven years and later as a substitute teacher at Cottage Hill Baptist School, Mrs. Johnson’s passion for learning made her a beloved teacher and mentor. She attended Luke 4:18 Fellowship. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband of 38 years, Robert W. Johnson; her two daughters, Laura E. Johnson and Caroline A. Johnson; her mother, Mary F. Weissinger of Mobile; sisters, S. Lee Weissinger of Boston, Mass. and Lois W. Revere (Mark) of Semmes, Ala.; brothers, Alan B. Weissinger, Jr. and Leonard Anderson “Andy” Weissinger of Grafton, Mass.; sister-in-law, Tricia J. Winter (Stan); brothers-in-law, Richard A. Johnson and Larry G. Johnson (Margaret); nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends, especially Harriet A. Doss and Doris D. Collier. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her father, Alan B. Weissinger, Sr. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staffs of Mobile Infirmary Medical Center; USA Mitchell Cancer Institute; Living Waters Medical Spa and Wellness Center; Regenerative Medicine Center; and Southern Cancer Center for their care and support. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at 12 p.m., and interment will immediately follow. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charitable or nonprofit organization of choice.
