Mary Agnes Barrett March – Born July 2, 1921, in Mobile, died Monday, January 31, 2011. She graduated from Murphy High School and Judson College. She was married in Junction City, KS, in 1944. Following her husband’s return from WWII, they moved to their home on Dog River, and resided there until their recent move to Westminster Village. Mrs. March was a long time active member of Government Street Presbyterian Church. In 1978, Mary Agnes received the M.O. Beale award for her many years of dedicated service to the cause of historic preservation. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames and the Daughters of the American Revolution, crucial in establishing the headquarters house and museum in the historic Richards House. Mrs. March was a member of the Junior League of Mobile and was a founding member of a local mystic society. Mary Agnes was a proud member of Mobile’s “Sewing Club” for over 60 years. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Stephen Andress and Ruth Hairston Barrett. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, William H. March, Jr.; her sister, Elizabeth Barrett Pharr; special nieces and their husbands, Averell and Joe Stuart and Mary and Bruce McGowin; her caregiver and dear friend, Georgia Jones; other relatives and many dear friends. Graveside services and interment will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in Pine Crest Cemetery. A memorial service will be held from Government Street Presbyterian Church following the graveside at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends after the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
