Marilyn Joan Wilhite, a native of Denver, Colorado died on Tuesday April 24, 2012. She was born to Bonnie Moon Wilhite and Harvey Matson Wilhite on May 2, 1931. Joan was a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with the College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama in Mobile for the outreach program in neonatal follow-up and the USA Children's Medical Center where she taught families, nurses and resident physicians as well as delivering patient care. She conducted numerous workshops on the physical assessment of children throughout the state and was honored as Outstanding Nurse Practioner in Alabama. She was an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Community Mental Health. Joan was a well known and accomplished portrait painter, and continued her lifelong interest and study in art throughout her career in the direction of learning / teaching tools, medical illustration published in journals, textbooks, promotional materials, commemorative and public service work, local and national. Ms. Wilhite was an active member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Mobile and later attended The Memorial Church of St. Luke The Beloved Physician, in PA. She held memberships in various nursing and artistic organizations and was a member of the National League of American Pen Women and the Daughters of the King. Joan graduated from South Denver High School, St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, the University of Denver, and earned a master's degree and specialty certification from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and the University of Colorado. She retired from the University of South Alabama as Professor Emeritus of Community Mental Health Nursing.
Survivors include: Kristin Rundles Ferraro of Philadelphia, PA; Lisa Rundles Crandall (CDR David A Crandall, US Navy Retired) of Huntingdon Valley, PA; William Robert Rundles, Jr., of Glenside, PA. Grandsons: William R. Rundles III, Samuel F. Ferraro, Maximilian A. Crandall. Granddaughters: Lisa E. Rundles, Zoe A. Crandall and other relatives. Funeral Services will be held at St. Matthews Episcopal Church on Overlook Rd. on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 11 AM. Visitation to start at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Mobile Alabama. Interment will follow in Denver, Colorado, on Friday May 4, 2012.
