.Lucy Kathleen “Kay” Lewis Foster of Mobile, Al. passed away on November 4, 2016. Kay was born December 12, 1947 in Alexandria, LA. Orphaned as an infant she was adopted by Gladys and Dewitt Lewis. Kay was always proud to be adopted and loved to say that she was a chosen child. Later as a young girl, Kay’s father passed away so Kay and her mother moved to Mobile and her mother became a nurse, at the tuberculosis hospital in Mobile. The job required that Kay’s mother live at the hospital during the week and Kay was then raised by her aunt and uncle, Kathleen Wood Sanders and D.P. Sanders. They were two of the most wonderful and loving people that ever lived. Kay felt blessed to have them all four.
Kay was preceded in death by her mother Gladys Wood Lewis, father Dewitt Lewis, Aunt Kathleen Wood Sanders, Uncle D.P. Sanders and son, Mark Foster.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years Larry Foster, daughter Michelle (Tim) Wilson and grandchildren Kathleen Wilson, Max Wilson, Lucy Foster and Halen Foster.
Kay attended Davidson High School and in 1966, was the Head Cheerleader, a Senior Class Favorite and a Mobile Azalea Trail Maid. Kay loved to tell about freezing at Ladd Stadium during the Senior Bowl and burning up sitting in front of the Mitchell Home on Springhill Ave waving to her friends on the way to the beach in the spring. She was also given the honor of being chosen as the 1966 Homecoming Queen for University Military School. Being a Davidson Cheerleader and the UMS Homecoming Queen were memories which she cherished her whole life. She remained loyal to her Davidson Classmates and participated in the Class of 1966 activities for the past 50 years.
Kay attended Dauphin Way Baptist Church and meet her soul mate, best friend and future husband Larry at age 14 on a church retreat. Kay would play the piano for the Sunday evening service and sometimes on Wednesday night for prayer meeting, Larry sitting with her enjoying every note. Kay and Larry attended church a lot so they could see each other. Kay called It ”church dating”. They married in 1970 at Dauphin Way.
Kay enjoyed her children and being a mother, she was a good cook and everything she cooked was delicious, learning to cook from her mother in law made everything turn out just the way Larry liked it. She would tell everyone her secret was that “a stick of butter makes everything better”.
Kay was a friendly, kind and loved talking to anyone about anything. We will miss Kay.
