L.D. Rankin – born September 29, 1919 in Perryville, AR, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012, at the home of his son, with his family at his side. Mr. Rankin served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was employed with International Paper Company in the Maintenance/Electrical Department until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Helton Road Baptist Church where he served in the capacity of Deacon, Adult Men’s Sunday school teacher, and trustee throughout the years. Mr. Rankin was preceded in death by his parents, Sibley and Mary Rankin; half-brother, Aubrey Rankin; and wife, Lucy Estelee Rankin. He is survived by 3 sons: Michael Maurice (Barbara) Rankin of Red Wing, MN, John Patrick (Mildred) Rankin of Madison, AL, and Lee Dennis (Sylvia) Rankin of Mobile; sister, Bernice Corley; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Asceracare Hospice nurses and aides: Cheryl, Summer, Jandy, Essie, Tina, Stacee, and Brenda. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour.
