John Edward Williamson, age 91, died peacefully in his Spanish Fort, Alabama home on June 21, 2022 surrounded by family. He was a University of Alabama graduate, a member of First Baptist Church of Mobile, and a veteran of the Korean War.
John was born in Mobile, Alabama to John William Williamson and Vivian Roach Williamson. He graduated from Murphy High School and the University of Alabama College of Engineering before being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After returning from Korea, he spent his career working on various engineering projects in Mobile and the surrounding area. John was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Mobile, where he served on the deacon council and sang in the choir for many years. He enjoyed traveling with Edna, spending time with family, watching Alabama football, and cheering for the Atlanta Braves.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Vivian Williamson, and his sister Carolyn Farnell. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Williamson, his sons Mark (Zoel) and Tim (Debra) Williamson, his daughter Mary Beth (Michael) King, and his four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Bill Williamson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to First Baptist Church-Mobile
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church-Mobile on Monday, June 27, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the church sanctuary beginning at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
