John is survived by his children, Michael Rollins, Kathy Rollins Shearer, Lesley Rollins Showers, and Mark Rollins; his 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dell Yarbrough Rollins, his son, John Rollins, III and his daughters, Cynthia Rollins Tancredi and Susan Mary Rollins.
John was born on April 16, 1927 in Granbury, Texas. He joined the Navy at the age of 16 and proudly served in WWII. In his youth, he was a mechanic and garage owner with his older brother, Dub. John, along with his brothers, Dub and Shorty all became stock car drivers and John was a regular competitor at CC Speedway in Corpus Christi, Texas.
John moved his family to Mobile in the summer of 1967 and operated a residential fence company, A1 Fencecraft, for 25 years. His favorite pastime was deep sea fishing with his three sons.
He was a parishioner of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.
A mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on January 24, 2020 with the committal of ashes following at 12:30 p.m. at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Charities in John’s memory.
