John Thomas Raines

April 2, 1930 – June 7, 2013

John T. “Popsie” Raines born April 2, 1930 in Repton, Alabama. Our loving father passed away at age 83 at the William F. Green State Veterans Home and entered his Heavenly Home on June 7, 2013. John grew up in Castleberry, Alabama and joined the U.S. Army and honorably served his country during the Korean War. After the war, he moved to Hammond, Indiana and worked at Inland Steel Company where he met and married Helen. John brought his family to Mobile, Alabama in 1972. John worked for various car dealerships before starting a successful joint venture with his son Greg in 1992, Lad and Dad’s Steak and Seafood.

John was a joyful man to be around and always had his friends and family laughing at his humorous nature. The family will receive family and friends at the chapel of Cottage Hill Baptist Church on Monday, June 17, 2013 from 3:00-5:00 PM. A memorial service will be officiated at the chapel of Cottage Hill Baptist Church on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 5:00 PM by Jim Robinson.

Flowers may be sent to the chapel of Cottage Hill Baptist Church on June 17th or a donation may be made in John’s name to Cottage Hill Baptist Church in support of The Laity Care Counseling Center.
