Mrs. Faget was born in New Orleans in 1931, attended St. Mary’s Dominican High School and later graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans in 1952. She married a young physician in 1954 and they soon moved to Norfolk, VA, and later to Mobile, AL, during her husband’s time with the U.S. Public Health Service. They loved Mobile so much they decided to raise their growing family there.
She was a member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church and was a long-time volunteer with the League of Women Voters. She enjoyed foreign movies, gardening and organizing every little drawer in the house. Her six children credit her with providing the love, education and stability to evolve into successful, intelligent and ethical adults.
She is survived by her six children, Crispin Faget (Lori), Nicole Culberson, Edmond Faget (James Simons), Martine Sladovich, Blaise Faget (Danielle) and Amelie Storment (John); ten grandchildren, Adam Culberson, Veronica Brewer, Genevieve Culberson, Aaron Culberson, Camille Storment, Claire Storment, William Storment, Isabelle Faget, Henry Faget and Colin Faget; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher Brewer, Emily Brewer and Max Culberson.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Guy Edmond Faget, a beloved family physician in the Mobile area for over 40 years, and her parents Paul John Durand and Veronica Daugherty Guirovich Durand.
Her family wishes to thank the many people who participated in her care over the years, especially Veronica Culberson Brewer and Cora Williams.
The family will have a private service in New Orleans at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mobile Botanical Gardens, Alabama Public Television, or the Little Sisters of the Poor Sacred Heart Residence in Mobile, AL, all organizations she loved dearly.
