Captain James W. Stallings (ret.) Alabama State Troopers passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on February 20, 2018. James served as Post Commander for Mobile and Baldwin Counties for the Alabama State Troopers from 1972 to 1987. He served the Alabama public for 26 years with the State Troopers posted in Huntsville, Selma, Montgomery, and Mobile as he advanced through the ranks from Trooper to Captain.Born May 8, 1930 in Fairfield, AL the son of James N. and Gladys Haynes Stallings, he graduated from Hueytown High School in 1948 where he was known as a hard-working, kind, and caring young man, a loving son, as well as a star athlete. He served his country in the US Air Force at Hanscom AFB in Massachusetts for 2 years before returning to Alabama and marrying his high school sweetheart Doris Ann Earley in 1950. He worked as a security officer for TCI and US Steel in Birmingham prior to joining the State Troopers in 1961.He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and was noted for his sharp wit and great sense of humor. He thoroughly enjoyed mentoring young men as he coached youth baseball and football leagues for many years.
Captain Stallings is survived by his wife of 68 years Ann, sons David (Nancy) of Westerville, OH, Roger (Timlin) of Columbia, SC and Keith (Tina) of Mobile, AL, 4 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Visitation will Friday February 23, 2018 From 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin St. Mobile, Al. Captain Stallings will be laid to rest Saturday February 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery 5951 Warrior River Rd. Concord, Al 35023
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alabama State Troopers Association or a cancer research charity of personal choice.
