James Arnold Martin

James A. (Jim) Martin , 91, from Fairhope, AL, formerly of Vestavia Hills, AL, passed away on November 19th , 2014. Jim was born on May 13th, 1923 in Calera, AL the son of Cecil and Dora Martin. He served in the 8th Army Air Corps during WWII. His B-17 was shot down over Hamburg, Germany and he was a POW during 1944-1945. He graduated from Auburn University (API) in 1948 . He began his career with Alabama Gas Corporation in 1948 and retired in 1986 as Sr. Vice President of Operations after 38 years of service. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Jane Gunn Martin, and his sister Evelyn Fuller. He is survived by his children: Hank Martin (Diane) and Leslie M. Edgemon of Fairhope, AL. Grandchildren Clay Edgemon, Cody Edgemon of Fairhope and Alan Martin (Lindsey) of Tuscaloosa.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday November 24th, 2014 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Chapel in Magnolia Springs, AL. A visitation will be held in the Birmingham area at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL on Monday afternoon November 24th between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. Burial will be at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL on Tuesday morning November 25th at 11:00am. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Chapel or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
