Mr. James A. “Cameo” Campbell- Age 90, departed this life November 18th at home with family. He was born in Laurel, MS in his grandmother’s home while his mother was on a visit, but was a resident of Mobile, Al. all his life. James was an Army Veteran that went to work for and retired from The Army Corps of Engineers as a civilian.
James dedicated his life to playing sports where he got his nickname “Cameo”, as well as, caching youth baseball and football. He was inducted into the second class of the Mobile Softball Hall of Fame in 1976.
After retirement he dedicated his life to his family and being everyone’s Popa.
James is proceeded in death by his wife, Judith S. Campbell; his parents Robert L. and Ella W. Campbell; and his great granddaughter, Judith Grayson Caylor.
He is survived by his son, Scott Campbell; daughter, Cyndi (David) Lynch; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Ray(Jane) Campbell; Edward (Mary Michael)Campbell; David Campbell; one brother in law, Stephen (Fiona) Sheehan; nieces; nephews and other family.
Pall Bearers are David G. Lynch, II, Ryan Rutkoski, Robert Caylor, Kyle Adams, Jack Lynch and Neil Sheehan.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to the Dementia Association, Heart Association, Cancer Association or Association of your choice.
A visitation for James will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 DAUPHIN ISLAND PKWY, MOBILE, AL 36605, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM.
