Born in Russellville, Alabama, Jackie spent his early years on the family farm. After the untimely death of his father, the family lost the farm and relocated to Mobile, Alabama, where Jackie attended Barton Academy and Murphy High School. It was in Mobile that he met the love of his life, Patsy Collins, with whom he built a beautiful life and family.
Jackie’s work ethic and charisma propelled him through various jobs, ultimately leading him to a distinguished career in the sheet metal industry. He thrived as assistant business manager of Sheet Metal Workers Local 441 and later was appointed International Representative of the Metal Trades and Railway Department of the AFL-CIO. Based in Washington, D.C., with an office across from the White House, Jackie negotiated contracts and oversaw unions in shipyards and railroads across the country. He retired in 2003 after a successful career but remained a humble and devoted family man throughout.
Despite his professional achievements, Jackie’s greatest joy came from his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his wisdom, encouragement, and unwavering presence in his family’s lives. He was always there with kind advice, a helping hand, and a heart full of love.
Jackie was also a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ. As one of the founding members and an elder at Mars Hill Church, his faith was a cornerstone of his life. He loved studying the Word of God and cherished the fellowship of his church community.
Jackie’s life was a testament to hard work, love, faith, and service. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
