The eldest son of Howard and Leila Yeager, Butch was born on March 10, 1942 in Mobile, AL. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Yeager; and sister, Debra Newman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Irene Brabner Yeager; his children, Ashley Garris Yeager (Scott), Lesley Vallas (John), and Jeffrey Yeager (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Nicole Garris, Steven Garris (Shannon), Jordan Vallas, John Paul Vallas, Katherine Vallas, Ella Vallas, Victor Vallas, Makayla Yeager and Hannah Yeager; great-grandchildren, Connor Garris and Walter Garris; sister and brother-in-law, and best friends, Johnny and Angie Leon; and other numerous family, neighbors, church family and friends.
Butch graduated Murphy High School and attended Auburn University before marrying the love of his life Irene. His first job was as a land surveyor for Polly Engineering - which he eventually owned. Getting into real estate and development, he founded LA Realty in the 80s. When the business moved to Dauphin Island, it became Island Realty and later Alabama Realty. Upon moving business to Mobile in 2018, Yeager Realty was formed. He was awarded member of the National Association of Realtors Emeritus status 1977-2019 for 40 plus years in the National Association of Realtors.
In the early 1980s, Butch was involved in the sale of numerous parcels of Ono Island to developers – that helped create one of the most unique and well known resort communities.
In the 1990s, Butch fell in love with Dauphin Island and focused all his efforts on this special community, where he developed such well-known projects as: DeSoto Landing, Audubon Place, Island Shores Drive, Bridge-view Drive and the Fish Camps.
Pallbearers include: Johnny Leon, John Vallas, Scott Wheat, Steven Garris, Jordan Vallas, John Paul Vallas, and Victor Vallas.
Honorary Pallbearers include: Brandon Newman, Dr. Donald Newman, Neil Yeager, Ned Minto, Tim Chandler, Clay Harper, and Rusty McNickle.
A special thank you to: Gary Phillips, M.D.; Nephrology and Associates of Mobile, Andrew Felis, Ryan Tulowitzki, Jesse Corbello, and Ronald Gaines; Kathryn Coletta, P.A.,Urology and Oncology; Fresenius Kidney Care - Old Shell Road location Beth, Miranda, Amy, Omeka, Marian, Jasmine and Sheryl – who were compassionate in our dad’s care over the past few months – as well as the wonderfully empathetic and caring doctors and nurses at the ICU at the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.
Visitation will be Monday, May 23, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 11 at St John’s Episcopal Church in Mobile, AL, with service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery, followed by a reception at Pine Crest Funeral Home – all are invited.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church in Mobile, Alabama.
