Bud Meads passed away at The Retreat Hospice by SAAD on January 12, 2023 after a brief battle with Heart Failure. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Mobile, AL. Bud was born in Snowdoun, Alabama on May 31, 1937 to Walter Sr. and Ruth Meads. He grew up on a dairy farm, the youngest of five boys. Bud graduated from Sidney Lanier High School Montgomery, AL in 1957 and attended Auburn University in 1958. He played football in both High School and College. In 1959, Bud continued playing football on a taxi squad for the Washington Redskins exhibition games. He was drafted in 1961 by the Army and Air National Guard. Bud received an honorable discharge from the Army after completing his military service and later obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 1974 for Business Administration and Personnel Management from Troy University in Montgomery. His career started with driving trucks for Railway Express, and developed into a 30-year career of managing trucking terminals for Bowman and Arkansas Freight. Bud was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He was always on the go and never met a stranger. After retirement, Bud and his wife Janet Shirley Meads moved to Mobile, AL to be closer to their grandsons. He loved spending time with his grandsons, Garrett and Connor and going to all of their activities. His wife Janet had Parkinson’s disease, which progressed while living in Mobile. Bud took excellent care of Janet until she passed on February 16, 2018. After mourning Janet, he started going to a Sunday school class at church. It was there that he met Carolyn Fore and found love again. Bud and Carolyn married on July 29, 2019 and he gained more family to love. He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife, Carolyn Fore Meads; a daughter, Amanda Yarbrough (Jim) and two grandsons that he adored, Garrett and Connor Yarbrough of Mobile, AL along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff from Kindred Home Hospice and The Retreat Hospice by SAAD. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 10am following with at memorial service at 11am at Christ United Methodist Church, Mobile, AL. A graveside service will be on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11am in Troy, AL at Good Hope Baptist Church where Bud will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bud’s memory may be made to Christ United Pastoral Care or to the Cemetery Fund for Good Hope Baptist Church.
