Our beloved Glennon Errol Bosarge, 84, died on September 24, 2022, at Mobile Infirmary. He was born on July 26, 1938, and preceded in death by his loving parents, Norman Garland Bosarge and Willodean Ott Bosarge.
Glennon was born and raised in Bayou La Batre, AL. He graduated from Alba High School in 1956 where he was class President his senior year and fittingly voted the friendliest. Glennon attended the University of Alabama and carried a passion and love for the school throughout his life. His first job was with J.B. Jones Timber Company where he developed a life-long relationship with Mr. Jones, who was like a second father to him. During his ten-year tenure, Glennon was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War where he served in the Adjutant General’s office. Upon his return, he resumed his position at the Company.
Following his time with the timber company, Glennon went to work for the Greater Gulf State Fair. Following the Fair, Glennon and his cousin, John Edward Robertson, opened Bojon’s Fashion, which closed shortly after Hurricane Frederick. Following Bojon’s, Glennon worked for the Royal Dog House and then was a stockholder and manager at Weichman’s All Season Restaurant. He rounded out his professional career in retail working for Metzger’s, then serving as the Gulf Coast Furrier for Gayfer’s followed by Henig Furs.
Glennon held multiple positions in the community always in the role of serving others. He was the State Director and was selected as the Outstanding Board Member of the Mobile Jaycees. As a Jaycee, he served as the President of the Greater Gulf State Fair and Vice President of the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo. Glennon worked with the America’s Junior Miss program for twenty years and also served as the Judge’s Chairman of the Mobile County Junior Miss program for fourteen. He served as the Court Selection Chairman of the Mobile Azalea Trail and judged numerous pageants over the years including Miss America, New Jersey, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi Junior Miss programs. Young, distinguished women from across the United States sought his mentorship when embarking on their Junior Miss journey. Glennon was a lifelong member of the First Evangelical Methodist Church where his parents were founding members. There, he served as a member of the Board of Stewards, a Trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent.
There was no one like Glennon. He had the gift of gab and everywhere he went he knew someone, or someone knew him. He was an incredible storyteller with an impeccable memory for detail dating back to his early years. He was passionate about his family, his meticulous yard and Alabama football and prayed over all of them. He was a skilled debater especially when it came to scripture and his quick wit and extemporaneous comebacks were vintage. Prior to his death, he talked often about his precious Mom and Dad and how they had gone over the hill. He was searching for them, and we are comforted in knowing that he is now reunited with both at the feet of Jesus.
He is survived by his greatest loves including his wife of 46 years, June Carolyn Graham, her children, George Vestal Davis, Jr. (L. Jane), Diane Davis Swearingen (Bryan), Laura Davis Chandler, and their grandchildren, Kristina Brooke Swearingen (affectionately known as his “Sweetie”), Chase Edward
Swearingen, and Davis George Patrick Chandler. Glennon grew up in a tight knit family alongside his first cousins, John Edward Robertson (Claudria), Iris Jacqueline Robertson Barker, Jesse Ott Robertson (Els), Richard Allen Vining (Betty Jean), Vernon Dale Vining, Marsha Bosarge Windham (Phillip), and Alden Bosarge, who he cherished as if they were his own brothers and sisters.
The family will be receiving guests for visitation on, Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the First Evangelical Methodist Church of Irvington, AL to begin at 2:00 PM until time of the memorial service at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, we request memorial gifts be made in his honor to his beloved church for the furthering of the mission of Christ to First Evangelical Methodist Church, In memory of Glennon Bosarge, 11329 Padgett Switch Rd, Irvington, AL 36544.
