Gladys Barnes Williams passed away quietly while in hospice care Thursday morning, April 11, 2024. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Agnes T. and William E. Barnes, a sister, Joan Barnes Small and brother, Raymond Barnes as well as her devoted husband of 49 years, Clarence L. (Bill) Williams. Gladys is survived by her two sons: Wade (Cindy) Williams and Ward (Penelope) Williams, a step-granddaughter, Caitlin Seifried Grimmer, nieces, a nephew and many great nieces and nephews.
Gladys was a people person who loved helping those around her. She was an active member of the Heritage Newport Garden Club, the ladies' auxiliary of the West Mobile Civitan Club, multiple Parent Teacher Organizations and various band and sports booster groups. She also enjoyed devoting her time as an avid volunteer at the Mobile Civic Center, Arthur Outlaw Convention Center, and Fort Conde. A life-long resident of Mobile, Gladys was proud of and loved her hometown. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church (previously The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). She and Bill loved to travel with family and friends, mostly in R.V.s starting with a tent, travel trailers and a motorhome.
Upon graduation from Murphy High School in 1949 Gladys was employed by the Mobile Press Register, Robinson Grove and Terrell Insurance, W.K.P. Wilson and Son Insurance and International Assurance companies.
Interment is scheduled for Tuesday May 14, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway Mobile, AL 36605 (251) 478-5227.
Her family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, nurses and aides at Diversicare of Foley and Community Hospice. Their care and support for Gladys will forever be appreciated. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Community of Christ in her name.
