Gerald Graham Cobb, 91, a native of Lockhart, Alabama and long-time resident of Chickasaw, Alabama, passed from this life on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Springhill Manor Nursing Home. Mr. Cobb was born to Virgil and Rena Cobb on December 15, 1924. He served honorably as a Signal Man third-class with United States Navy during World War II, for which he was awarded a Bronze Star upon the ribbon of the European-African-Middle Eastern area as a member of an armed guard crew aboard the SS John Banvard during battle on May 11, 1944. Graham came back stateside, where he served aboard the SS John Banvard, SS Achilles, and SS Mission Santa Maria until he received an honorable discharge in 1946. Graham then attended Troy State Teacher’s College under the G.I. Bill, where he received a Bachelor’s of Science. He was a school teacher in Andalusia at Pleasant Home High School until he facilitated the opening of the new Rayon Plant Courtaulds North American Incorporated, where he worked for thirty three years as a lab technician before retirement.
Mr. Cobb celebrated sixty five years of marriage with his beloved wife, Muriel Heath Cobb. Amongst his life achievements, he was most importantly a devoted husband and father. Not to mention, a devoted Alabama Football fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Rena Cobb; his brother and sister-in-law, Cleopus and Gladys Cobb; and infant sister, Mary Cobb. He is survived by his wife, Muriel Cobb; his two daughters, Brenda Carol Cobb and Deborah Diane Cobb; and many nephews and nieces.
The Cobb family would like to extend the utmost gratitude to the caregivers at E.A. Roberts Alzheimer’s Center and Springhill Manor for all the love and compassion shown to Mr. and Mrs. Cobb.
