Dorothy C. Butler, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana was born December 14, 1926 to proud parents Mr. John Arnold and Mrs. Dorothy R. Arnold. Mrs. Dorothy departed this earth in the mid-morning of Saturday, November 27, 2021.
She was preceded in death by husband Oswald F Butler, affectionately known as "Papa Lot."
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted daughter Lillian Butler Smith; three grandchildren, Mellanie Tostado, DeMarco Smith (Latasha Smith) and LaKeia Smith and nine devoted, loving great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-granddaughters. Her devoted nieces, Janet Butler Reid, and Ursla Butler; nephews, Lorenzo (Sandy) Nathan, Eric (Naphone) Nathan, and Vincent Nathan; and a host of other dear family member and friends who were more than just her friends as she treated all as family.
She worked various jobs within the nursing field. Her profession as a licensed Practitioner Nurse provided her and her family with many opportunities. She was well-respected in her community and by her clients. She stayed very active throughout her career and into her retirement. She had so much life in her as she always gave her love and time to her grandchildren and all those who loved her. She loved telling of the stories of her past, the would have you laughing and crying at the same time. Her cooking could not be matched, it was sweet and full of flavors, just as she was. She was known for so much as she was blessed with being gifted in craft; knitting, sewing (as she sewed for many and her daughter's personal fashion designer). In the words of a close friend "Mrs. Butler would offer us the Phrase "For True", as a way to frame a question. Here is to the most creative Mardi Gras umbrella maker God ever produced."
As we make our way to say goodbye to a precious and beautiful soul, we have comfort in the memories and in the life that we shared with our affectionately known, "Nanny Dot, Deechee, GiGi and MoMa".
