Clay was a native of Barlow Bend, Clarke County, Alabama. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1955, and went to work with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. in 1956. He transferred to the Mobile Field Division in 1961 where he remained until his retirement in 1998. During his career, he received numerous incentive and meritorious awards during his 42 years of service with the FBI, forming many long-lasting friendships.
After retiring from the FBI, he became a private investigator and did contract background investigations for several federal agencies.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claiborne Clifton and Eleanor Phillips Myers, of Barlow Bend, Alabama and his son, Steven Kinzer.
He loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and adventurer which he shared with his sons, grandchildren, and many friends. He had a passion for helping people and did volunteer work for several organizations: the Mobile Chapter of the March of Dimes for over 35 years, a past president of the Stapleton Volunteer Fire Department, and the Baldwin Catfish Roundup for the Disabled in Stapleton, AL. He was a member of and served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher for the Stapleton Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Ruth (Coker) Myers, and four sons, Claiborne C. (CC) Myers III (Pam) of Daphne, AL, Darrell W. Myers (Kathy) of Stapleton, AL, Bryan A. Myers (Cindy) of Mobile, AL, David A. Kinzer of Stapleton, AL, a brother, Frank A. Myers (Joyce) of Thomasville, AL, grandchildren, Jennifer Baker (Nic), Lacey E. Myers, Alexis Kinzer Brown (Eric), Cheyenne A. Kinzer, Claiborne C. Myers IV, Alston J. Kinzer, Nicholas A. Myers, and great-grandchildren Owen and Isla Baker and a nephew, Phillip F. Myers. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Thursday, January 12, 2016, from 5-8 p.m. The family will also receive friends at Gainestown United Methodist Church in Gainestown, Alabama on Friday, January 13, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. with a graveside service to immediately follow in the church cemetery.
