Billy James Walker longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama and native of Jackson, Alabama, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents, Grover C. and Alma Knight Walker, twin sister Betty Gaines Walker, sister Marguriete Walker Gabriel, brothers Herbert R. Walker, John C. Walker, Richard H. Walker and Grover Cleveland Walker. Mr. Walker was owner of Friedman’s Fine Jewelry since 1977 and has worked in the jewelry business for over 65 years working with Gabriel’s Jewelers and past manager of Ross Jewelers in Mobile. He was a proud 1947 graduate of Murphy High School where he played trumpet in the band and remained active in Class functions. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy. Mr. Walker was an avid lover of the outdoors enjoying hunting, fishing and scuba diving. He was founder and president of the Creola Sportsman Club, Mobile Big Game Fish Club and the Mobile Devil Fish Club. He loved spending time at his beach home, boating and bird watching. He was also a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church. Mr. Walker is survived by nieces Patricia Walker Hamilton (Marion), Gloria Walker Skipper (Earston) and nephew Phillip Gabriel (Edna) and sister-in-law, Mary Ella Walker (Pat). He is also survived by great-niece Shelly Scott (Paul); great-nephew Phillip May (Vera); great-great nieces and nephews, Caroline, Ann Catherine, Ella Francis and Paul Scott, Jr. Mr. Walker is also survived by many other nieces, nephew and friends. Visitation will be at Radney Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013 with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Virginia Street, Mobile, Alabama. In lieu of flowers Mr. Walker has requested that donations be made to The Friends of Magnolia, P. O. Box 6383, Mobile, Alabama 36660. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Gerald, Andrew Whiteley, Robert Moore, Larry Heard and Dr. James Stowe.
