Averall Cortez “Al” Ezell, son of Johnnie L. and the late Levi Ezell. Passed away unexpectedly at the age of 58. Al was born in Mobile, Alabama on October 6, 1964. He attended St. Catherine’s Elementary School, McGill-Toolen High School, Bishop State Community College, and the University of South Alabama. During his time in school, he stood out as an exceptional student in the classroom, and as an elite athlete in the arenas.
Al was extremely competitive, and absolutely loved to play ball, be it football, basketball, or knocking the stitching out of a baseball. He truly was an all-around athlete and an inspiration to all student athletes who knew or saw him play.
Al was also very kind and considerate. He went on to excel in the medical field, where he spent the majority of his adult years helping patients while working as a phlebotomist at various Hospitals from Mobile to Los Angeles to Honolulu. He completed his education with a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration from the University of Hawaii.
Bro. Al “Aldo Chilla Cella” Ezell joined Zeta Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., was accepted into its folds in 1985, and has never met a stranger since. He was not only an active brother, but a lifelong and true friend. Al’s legacy will live on as he now enters the Omega Chapter.
Al is survived by his mother, Johnnie L. Ezell, two brothers, Tony (Lavonda) Ezell and Andurio C. Ezell, and their respective families, comprised of Nieces (Lauren A. Ezell, Olivia G. Ezell, and Aleia D. Ezell) and Nephews (Austin C. Ezell, Amir C. Ezell, and Amari C. Ezell). He was preceded in death by his father, Bro. Levi Ezell. Al resided in Honolulu, Hawaii at the time of death on November 7, 2022.
The family would like to thank the Brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. for a lifetime of friendship and service. We would also like to thank all of you who have shared kind words, and prayers for the comfort of those family members left behind. We pray that you continue to be blessed and highly favored in God’s name, Amen.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022 beginning at 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, Alabama.
