From Nathalie Eckert (Niece) and Chris Eckert (Sister):
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Roy Eckert, a cherished brother and uncle, friend, talented artist, and free-spirited soul, who left this world on December 15th, 2024, at the age of 78.
Known for his distinct creativity, sense of humor, dinner parties, and unique perspective on life, Bill touched the hearts of everyone around him. Whether he was painting vibrant canvases that embodied his unconventional style, cooking up delicious foods for family and friends, or simply enjoying a good cup of coffee, he lived his life with passion and purpose. His artistic spirit and unwavering humor will be dearly missed. Bill leaves a legacy of art, love, and memories that will forever inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.
Bill was also an athlete. In fact in high school he held the pole vaulting record of 12‘6“, and for the longest time his name was posted in the gym as record holder. Following high school he was off to Springfield College in Massachusetts. Over the years he practiced yoga, was a swimmer, lifted weights, and became an amazing skier, that resulted in his great retirement to Colorado.
From Jeanann Eckert (Sister):
WRE, William Roy Eckert, The Wizard,Billy, Broski, my older and only brother. 10 years older, and definitely wiser. A man of many talents, artistic, as we know, it runs in the family, not me though. Great on set in NCIS LA! Very cool, hard, physical, mechanical labor. Loved his late night Jazz, the one station in Telluride, CO. he could get. Sense of humor a bit dark usually but hilarious, and intelligent. That runs in the family too, not me though.
Amazingly good cook, chef. He put the most excellent gas stove to good use, hosting dinners for pals in Ophir, just outside of Telluride. I went to the International Film Festival 5 years in a row!! We met many a famous face, Bill too cool for school!! An accomplished artist, very interesting pieces . I am one proud little sister. He came to my home several times, once was his 64th Birthday! He stayed in his niece’s, Nathalie's room, I woke him with COFFEE, and played Beatles," When I’m 64!" Good times together all our visits. Costa Rica was perfect, wow, he had a Sloth in his tree! Great place. I am a very fortunate proud little sister to have had an enduring relationship, with LOVE, fun, adventure, humor, and he was a good farter which always cracked him up. That runs in the Whole Family.
Carry on Brother Billy to your sweet spot. You are dearly loved by many, cats too. Sister Jeanann
From Jim Fitzjames, a wonderful friend:
“1979-80 comes back with Bill tanned brown as a berry with hair bleached blond by the sun in work shorts and work boots down on Breeze Avenue, just one house away from the boardwalk and sandy beach. A wild time of dreams for the future and lots of fun. This was California. We had all escaped from seemingly everywhere across the US, Europe, NJ, Mexico and Venice Beach was escapee's heaven. Beneath the crazed hedonism we knew we would have to buckle down and move onto, or into, 'respectability' eventually, the middle-class conformity from when we came.”
