It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tracy N. Thompson on October 26,2024 in Mission Viejo, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Tracy was born on August 1, 1951 in Lynwood, California, to Kenneth and Jeanne Thompson. He graduated from Lynwood High in 1969, went on to play water polo at Long Beach State and was a Los Angeles County ocean lifeguard working as a recurrent for over 30 years.
Tracy’s long career in the fire service started in 1973 at 22 years old. After two years working for the City of Placentia and ten years at South Lake Tahoe Fire, he was hired by the City of Long Beach. During this time with Long Beach Fire, he was a fireman, paramedic, engineer, captain, member of the swift water team, and a Super Captain on Rescue Boat 1. He spent more time at station 11 than any other firehouse. His last several years he spent at the airport retiring in 2004.
When Tracy wasn’t working, he loved boating, hiking, traveling and spending time at his second home in Meadview, Arizona. Being with his family and helping others was his passion, whether it was on a call or helping a friend take down a tree.
He is survived by is wife of 47 years, Cindy, his children, Kristina, Grant, and Amanda, his grandchildren, Jade, Riley, and Paige, his great grandchild August, his siblings, Mike, John and Teri. Tracy will truly be missed and he will have a place in our hearts forever.
