Ronald Howard Small, 65, passed away peacefully at his home in San Juan Capistrano on December 20, 2019. He was born in Kankakee, Illinois, on December 15, 1954 to the late Allan and Charlotte Small. He was one of five children – three older brothers Mark, Larry and Tim, and younger sister Esther.
Ron earned a bachelor’s degree in Business from National University, which launched a long and successful career as an executive with Frazee Paint in San Diego and, later, Vista Paint in Orange County. He later founded MilspecWest, a distributor of micro interconnect products, which he operated until his death with his brother Tim.
His greatest loves were for his wife, Cindy, of 39 years, and his children Matthew and Kimberly. Ron counted his many friends as “family” too, enjoying with them a multitude of ski trips, golf outings and marathon poker games over the years. Some of his favorite memories were of sitting in his backyard, singing old songs and drinking wine with friends and family.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Cindy and their children Matthew Small (Jeanette) and Kimberly Biasca (Matt). He was the proud grandfather of Landon and Julian Small, and was looking forward to the birth of a granddaughter in 2020 to Kim and Matt Biasca. He leaves behind his siblings Mark Small (Maureen), Larry Small, Tim Small (Betsy) and Esther Knott (Jim); his mother-in-law Carol Marder, stepmother-in-law Cindy Marder, and brother-in-law John Marder (Candy) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations in Ron’s memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the American Lung Association.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held January 25, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Ron and Cindy’s home in San Juan Capistrano.
