Claudia was an educator for 30 years. She dedicated all of those 30 years to Bell Gardens Elementary School. She taught special education for 23 years and kindergarten for the last seven years. She held two credentials and one certificate in special education along with her regular teaching credential.
She had been teaching since 1980 and was a teacher at Bell Gardens Elementary School. She worked in special education for about 22 years, including 15 years as a resource specialist and 7 years as a special day class teacher. In her last 6 years, she had been a kindergarten teacher.
As a wife and a mother of two children, she did not start college until the age of 30. Her first two years were at the community colleges. Then she was fortunate to attend Pacific Oaks College.
Her expansive travels had been to the western part of Canada and to Mexico. In Mexico, she visited Tijuana and Puerto Vallarta. When in Puerto Vallarta, she enjoyed traveling out to some of the more rural areas. This gave her a vision of what some of her Bell Gardens families’ lives might have been like. She knew that many of their families came from poorer towns and villages than the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta, but she believed her experience opened her eyes to non-city lifestyles.
She was also a person who was born with dyslexia, and she believed this experience as a child and as an adult had helped her understand the sense of differentness. For her, this meant a personal struggle for her sense of capability, dignity, and to trust her own cognition. That in turn helped her understand and have empathy for her students.
She loved the beach. We grew up spending summers at a beach house on Balboa island. This is where she would kept and used her sailboat.she loved sailing . Then we always had Dads Frozen bananas! As we got older we co ti yes our beach house tradition at Oxnard Shores, collecting sea glass and riding our bikes everywhere!
She loved tennis and was quite the competitor. Very athletic. She was not a huge spectator of sports unless it was tennis or boxing
She loved the arts. She often took us to plays and museums and shared with us her creative lens of the world thru her expression of it I. Her photography! She had a dark room in her home.
She loved a good pool party. We had many when we lived in Anaheim hills with the other families. She had a lot of friends and always enjoyed a good time . Lucky fir us every house she lived in had a pool , so she continued this tradition on until she finally moved to emerald court ! Everyone in the family can recall a memory from one of these events Whether it be synchronized swimming, the inflatable bull, playing left right center ….
In ——- we went on a family cruise. It was moms dream and she chose Alaska! So many memories made on that trip with the kids and grandkids! Fork art , Brando discovering the casino,
