Betty was born on December 30, 1935 in West Bromwich, England.
Betty lived and grew up in West Bromwich and in Birmingham, with her mother and father Florence and Albert Bayliss and her five brothers and sisters, Dennis, Derek, Margaret, Rosalyn and Ann.
Betty graduated from Oldbury Technical University. After college, she sailed on a ship from England to Canada to start a new life adventure. She met her husband Walter Selk of 61 years in Toronto, Canada and they had their daughter Danielle in 1964.
Betty and Walter moved to Torrance, California in 1965 where they spent most of their lives enjoying the California sunshine.
Betty’s greatest passion was spending time with her family, Walter, Danielle, son in law, Scott Prince and two grandson’s Connor and Cole.
She adored Connor and Cole and she was always there for them whether she was picking them up from school, attending every sports event they participated in or just hanging out with them.
Betty loved to travel the world and take long weekend trips with our family all over California.
She enjoyed going back to England and Germany to visit her sisters, nieces and nephews, mother in law Berta Schneider and close life long friends.
She loved spending time at our traditional annual family gatherings and holidays (cooking, singing carols in the kitchen, laughing and going to our beach parties etc) with our extended families, the Peszt’s and their extended family, the Prince’s and extended family and the Harrison’s.
She was an avid golfer in retirement, playing twice a week with her friends, grandsons and with her ladies golf club. She also loved to watch golf tournaments on TV.
Betty was also an enthusiastic soccer (in England ‘football’) fan. She loved to watch her grandsons play the game, attend LA Galaxy games and if there was a game on TV, she would watch any match that was on. She was en eagle eye on calling fouls and watching the referees make what she considered errors.
In her professional life, she helped Walter run their automotive business, handling bookkeeping, inventory and assisting customers. She also had a 6 year career in the Tax Software and Publishing industry as a Tax software and publishing Contract Renewal Consultant.
Betty was a loving, kind and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and best friend.
Betty is survived by her husband Walter, daughter Danielle, her son in law Scott, and her two grandchildren Connor and Cole.
We will also mourn the loss of our dear loved one, Raeone Prince, who was the mother in law of Betty’s daughter, Danielle and grandmother of Connor and Cole.
A “Celebration of Life” and Reception will be held at Fairhaven Memorial Services, located at 27856 Center Drive, Mission Viejo, on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:00AM.
