Hidalgo/McAllen- Hidalgo/McAllen - Our beloved mother, Juanita G. Reyna, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Our mother was affectionately known as “Janie,” “Juana,” and “Cana” to those who held her dear.
Family was the center of her life, and her love for them will be her lasting legacy. She is survived by her children: Lisa (Noe) Luevano and Juan (Marlen) Reyna; her sisters: Cuca (Noe) Valdez and Delia (Richard) Crawford; her brother: Roberto (Perla) Aparicio; and her first cousin, San Juanita (Abel) Riojas. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Our mother’s love and devotion will continue through her three grandchildren: Noe Jesus, Jenessa Vanae, and Juan Ramiro.
Born in Hidalgo, Texas in 1944, our mother grew up with a deep connection to the land and community. As a teenager, she began working as a field laborer, demonstrating the strong work ethic and resilience that would define her life. She later transitioned into the restaurant industry, where she not only sharpened her cooking skills but also made lifelong friendships that she cherished deeply. Our mother dedicated 40 years of her life to working as a housing manager. She began her career with the City of Hidalgo, later, she worked at Valley View Apartments, earning the respect of her residents. She concluded her career at Mission Palms Apartments, where she retired in 2017. Her work ethic and kindness had a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with her.
In addition to her work, our mother was known for her deep and unwavering faith where she found strength and comfort throughout her life. Her faith was the foundation that guided her, and she often shared her love for God and her wisdom with others, offering support and encouragement to anyone in need. Our mother’s home was always open, filled with the warmth of her hospitality and the aroma of her legendary cooking. She enjoyed sharing stories, laughter, and life lessons, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Our mother also had a deep love for the game of baseball and her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Antonia and Desiderio Aparicio; her sister, Dora Cantu; her stepbrother, Isaac Aparicio; and her nephew, David Valdez.
A visitation for Juanita will be held Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel, 3611 North Taylor Road, Mission, Texas 78573. A rosary will occur Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 7:00 PM, 3611 North Taylor Road, Mission, Texas 78573. A funeral mass will occur Monday, December 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 208 E Camelia Ave, Hidalgo, TX 78557. A burial will occur Monday, December 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at City of Hidalgo Cemetery, 105 N 3rd St, Hidalgo, TX 78557.
