Irma was born in Mission, TX to parents Adalberto Ramirez, Sr. and Emma Mendez. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Adalberto Ramirez, Jr., Oscar Ramirez, Hector Ramirez, Aurora Martinez, and Olalla Ramirez.
Irma graduated from Mission High School in 1944. She subsequently attended and completed McAllen Business College. In 1945, she started her career at First State National Bank and Trust in Mission, TX. She worked at the bank during the day and after work, would cross the street to work at her family’s business, Ramirez Food Store. In 1949, she left the bank in Mission for First National Bank in McAllen, TX which eventually became Texas Commerce Bank. She retired after 41 years only to begin working the following day for Laredo National Bank, which later became Compass Bank. She continued to work there for nineteen years, retiring as Senior Vice President after 64 total years in the banking industry. She had experience in all departments but her love was international banking, where she made many life long friends. Throughout her banking career, she was also active in many civic organizations such as the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, Amigos del Valle, South Texas College, International Good Neighbor Council, and Driscoll Children’s Hospital Volunteer Organization.
In August 1949, she married Arnoldo Garcia and had two children, Arnold Arnott and Irma Iris. They were married for 24 years. Irma raised her two children with grace and instilled in them the importance and value of hard work. Irma was known for her elegance, strength, resilience, and most of all love. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her friends and family. She was especially known for her puffy tacos and brownies, loved by all who had the opportunity to taste them.
Her children would like to express their gratitude to all family and friends who were supportive of her throughout her life. Additionally, we would like to thank all who helped care and comfort to her in her final days.
