Bill was born in the Bronx, New York. His love of music started at a young age and he started playing the mandolin around age 8. He was proud to have served as a Quartermaster in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the war, he was able to earn his business degree at City College New York in 1958 and headed west. He started his own company as a business broker (mergers and acquisitions) in Cleveland, OH and then came to California in 1962.
He met Letha at the end of 1963 when they were both taking a class in existential psychology. They married on his 39th birthday on August 29, 1965 and spent virtually all of their 57 years of marriage going to concerts and plays, participating in discussion groups, and traveling. Their lives were busy and full with Bonnie and Karen from Letha's previous marriage and then joined by Diana (born in 1967) and Elisa (1970).
Music continued to be a big part of his life. Besides mandolin, he played balalaika, dombra, and banjo. He was a talented amateur musician and many of his happiest times were when he was playing music with others.
He lived a long and happy life.
