Glenn Myron Alperstein, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024 at the age of 89. Born on July 6, 1935, in Los Angeles, California, to Jerry and Florence Alperstein, Glenn overcame a challenging childhood marked by asthma and other ailments. Despite these early struggles, he developed a lifelong passion for the outdoors, particularly enjoying camping and snorkeling in the Channel Islands.
Glenn pursued higher education at Santa Monica City College before transferring to UCLA, where he majored in business. He then attended Boalt Hall at UC Berkeley, earning his law degree in three years. In 1958, Glenn married Sheila Charnow, the love of his life, and together they welcomed their first son, Kevin, in 1959. After completing his law degree, Glenn and Sheila returned to Los Angeles, where he began his distinguished legal career.
The couple expanded their family with the births of their “almost perfect” daughter, Lauren, and son, Ken. In 1964, they settled into their lifelong home in Woodland Hills. Driven by a profound sense of compassion, Glenn and Sheila opened their hearts and home to 27 foster infants from Vista Del Mar, ultimately adopting their fourth child, Monique.
Glenn's life was enriched by his love for travel and the outdoors, with memorable camping and backpacking trips to the Sierra Nevadas, Colorado Rockies, Canadian Rockies, tennis trips to Hawaii, a safari to Africa, and the visit of a lifetime to the Galápagos Islands. His dedication to his family and community was unwavering, and he cherished his time with the Mem-Aleph Havurah group, active for over 55 years.
Glenn is survived by his devoted wife Sheila, children Kevin, Lauren, Ken, and Monique, daughters-in-law Ilene and Jill, son-in-law Malcolm, and grandchildren Stephanie, Rachel, Emily, Scott, Jack, Max, Linda, and Tristan, along with his wife Angela. He also leaves behind his cherished great-granddaughter, Leyla Anne Devine who joined the family three weeks ago. Glenn's legacy of love and generosity will forever be remembered by his family and friends.
