Kenneth John Blampied, 85 passed away peacefully on Friday April 5, 2013 in Mission, British Columbia. Ken is lovingly remembered by his wife Agnes; daughter Shelley Kornelson; son Michael Blampied ( Phyllis); stepchildren Ronda Lachance (Claude) and Roland Makarenco (Billy Joe); his loving grandchildren Lindsay (Sebastien), Matthew, Crystal, Dayton, Nicholas, Marie Renee, Sebastien and Claudia as well as many nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; Louis Stanley and Ethel Harper Blampied.
Ken was born in Verdun Quebec in 1927. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and served in the Second World War as a boy soldier. Later, Ken served in the Korean War in the Royal Canadian Regiment. Years later, Ken distinguished himself as the Korea War Veterans Association National President and revisited Korea in peacetime. Ken was also involved with the Royal Canadian Legion and served as Past President in Kamloops British Columbia. For many years, Ken devoted his work life to developing and managing The Lethbridge Handy Bus.
Ken was well known for his humour and quick wit that always left a smile. He was well loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed. We now hold him in our hearts and cherish our time with him.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Mission Woodlawn Funeral Home 7386 Horne Street Mission on Thursday April 11, 2013 at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the BC Children’s Hospital in the name of Blampied Family and Friends.
