BENTLEY, James (Jim) Raymond, age 74, passed away August 24, 2018 in Mission, BC with family by his side. Jim was born in Hardisty, Alberta, May 5,1944 to Edythe Elizabeth Chapman and James Roy Bentley. Jim’s father was serving in WWII in Europe at the time of his birth. Jim was predeceased by his son James Robert Bentley on August 8, 2018. He is survived by his wife Eileen Lois Bentley (nee Irwin), sister Shirley Jeanne (Jerry) Webb, daughter Elsa Edythe Falloon, step children Calvin (Tamara) Beattie and Tamara (Bob) Hintz, nine grandchildren and one great grandson as well as nieces, nephews and many cousins. Jim grew up in Lloydminster, Alberta. In his youth he attained the rank of Queen Scout and carried what he learned throughout his life in his love of the outdoors. After a year at university, Jim joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1965. His was the last RCMP troupe to train on horseback. One of Jim’s favourite mounts was Burmese, who would in 1969 become Queen Elizabeth II’s mount for the Trouping the Colour for 18 years. Jim faithfully served his country in the RCMP for nineteen years, retiring in 1984. Jim was passionately protective of his family, he loved us all, including those friends who he deemed to be his family. Camping and fishing were always important to him. In addition, his dogs throughout his life were also his family and much loved by him. Though our cross Canada trip had to be terminated this summer, our stop at Fort Walsh, Saskatchewan, was by Jim’s own words, “his pilgrimage”, a place he had wanted to visit since childhood. At Jim’s request there will be no public service, he requested a private family gathering in his memory. 107 Jim. We have you covered!!!
Thank you to Dr. Bhatt, Mission Memorial Hospital, Christine Morrison Hospice and Mission Hospice Society for their care in his final days. In Jim’s memory a donation to your favourite charity in lieu of flowers is appreciated.
It is not the length of his life, or the depth of the grave ....
In the end he’ll be measured by the Love that he gave!!
