It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Eugene Power, our beloved husband, father, poppa, uncle, brother and friend. He sadly left our world in the wee hours of December 4, 2024, at the age 87. Eugene’s memory will remain in the hearts to all those who were honored to have the privilege of knowing him. Eugene was a compassionate, hardworking, religious man who put the needs of others ahead of his own. Nobody was a stranger to Dad only a friend he had yet to meet.
Born overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the Lighthouse at Tides Point Newfoundland (As he proudly noted in his passport!). He moved permanently to Vancouver BC in 1969 to fish up and down the West Coast. Although, he left Newfoundland he was proud to share stories with anyone who would listen about his heritage, some required a translator. His happiest days were coming in from a fishing trip with a few fish to share. He proudly told people, “He was the cook on the boat for over 50 years and had never lost a man!” I’m not sure if anyone else we know enjoyed 3 meals of fish a day!
As he slowly moved into retirement, he enjoyed golfing, gardening and rescuing lost golf balls. Many were fortunate enough to share in the abundance of potatoes from his garden. He enjoyed walking, playing cards, singing and playing his accordion.
He will be forever loved for those who knew him! In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Ridge Meadows Hospital (Baillie House) or to St. Joseph’s Parish in Mission B.C.
