INDIAN TRAIL – Viola Marie Dupuis LeBlanc, age 96, peacefully went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 13, 2012 at Lake Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Indian Trail. She was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, on June 1, 1916. The daughter of the late Samuel Dupuis and the late Marguerite Gauvin, she was the 4th born of 10 children. She was a novice Nun at age 16 and left the Convent at age 17. She married her husband, Edmond LeBlanc on October 10, 1935 in Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada. They relocated to Hartford, CT in 1955 with their four daughters. She retired after 20 years of service from Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, CT, in 1978. After 45 years of marriage her husband died on July 18, 1980. She moved to West Haven, CT where her daughter Louise and husband Fred Carroll lived. In 2000 she moved to Matthews, NC, to live with her daughter Louise and husband, Fred Carroll until the summer of 2011 when she became a permanent resident at Lake Park Nursing.
She proudly became a U.S. Citizen at age 84. She also made many beautiful quilts and crocheted blankets which she gave to family members as gifts. For many years she made clown dolls and sold them or gave them as gifts.
She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Dupuis, mother, Marguerite Gauvin, husband, Edmond LeBlanc, daughter Violet Leblanc, daughter Blanche Clark, brother Leo Dupuis, brother Willie Dupuis, brother Armond Dupuis, brother Fred Dupuis, brother Gerald Dupuis, sister Yvonne Deveau, sister Geneva Belliveau, and sister Leona Dupuis.
She is survived by her sister, Irene Dupuis of Cambridge, MA, daughter, Louise Carroll and her husband Fred of Matthews, NC, daughter, Jeannette Chmielecki of Wethersfield, CT, granddaughter Rebecca Edvalson and her husband John of Albany, NY, granddaughter MaryAnne Sterling and her husband Bill of Bonneau, SC, grandson Gordon Clark of London, Ontario, Canada, grandson Jason Chmielecki and his wife Hiroko of Little Rock, CA, grandson Eric Chmielecki and his wife Yessy of Little Rock, CA, grandson Fredd Carroll of Branford, CT, granddaughter Ginny Rainsdon and her husband Alan, great-granddaughters Jessica Clark, Charmaine Sterling, Samantha Rainsdon, Alexandra Rainsdon, Lucy Edvalson, Riley-Ann Carroll, and Alyssa Heberger, great-grandsons Benjamin Chmielecki, Enoch Chmielecki, Kyle Clark, Levi Edvalson, Noah Edvalson, Anthony Carroll, and Jacob Rainsdon.
She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC, where she also worked for a couple of years as a Teacher’s Assistant for the 3 year olds until she was 84. She had also worked as a foster grandmother for pre-K children at St. Lawrence School for 6 years when she lived in West Haven, CT. She always had great love for little children. Viola was the sweetest Mom and Grandmom. She was always thinking of others and very compassionate. Her faith and trust in God was an inspiration to all of us. We all will truly miss her.
A service to celebrate her life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 8451 Idlewild Rd., Charlotte, NC, with Fr. Patrick T. Hoare officiating.
