A service to celebrate her life will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill, with the Reverend Roger Wall officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Historic Matthews Cemetery. Members of the Adult Ladies II Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Born December 25, 1930, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Margaret was the daughter of the late William Harris and Edna Mae Godfrey Gardner. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, and a member of the Adult Ladies II Sunday School Class. Margaret graduated from East Mecklenburg High School, and worked in the textile industry until she retired. She loved her family dearly and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are her six brothers, William M. “Bill” Gardner of Mt. Holly, North Carolina, Bobby H. Gardner and wife, Ella, of Pageland, South Carolina, Paul C. Gardner and wife, Nancy, of Sumter, South Carolina, Carl D. Gardner of Charlotte, North Carolina, Charles K. Gardner and wife, Betty, of Weddington, North Carolina, and Phillip E. Gardner of Wadesboro, North Carolina; 17 nieces and nephews; 34 great-nieces and nephews; and 25 great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by a brother, Wade H. Gardner; sisters-in-law, Anne Gardner Boyd and Betty P. Gardner; and a nephew, Phillip Scott Gardner.
