Born September 4, 1935 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Lester C. Nutter and Gertrude F. Nutter.
Jim attended MIT, and graduated from Northeastern University in 1959.
He married M. Nancy Hennion on August 29, 1959 in Naugatuck, CT. He then earned a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University.
He also served over 20 years in the United States Army during which he worked for NASA.
His work took the family many places across the country: W. R. Grace in Maryland and Pennsylvania , Robbin Industries in Ohio, and lastly in North
Carolina for Scandura, Reeves Bros. Co., and Day-Zimmerman Engineering and also his own consulting company.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Nancy Nutter; sons, Michael Nutter and wife, Sandra; Charles Nutter and wife, Christine;
daughters, Elizabeth N. McCourt and husband, Stephen; Laura N. Holmes and husband, Daniel; brothers, William Nutter and wife, Lillian; Donald Nutter; Kenneth Nutter and wife, Sandra; sister, Judith N. Sirois and husband, Robert;
twelve grandchildren, Sharon, James, Marc, Molly, Alexander, Eli, Ryan, Jordan, Austin, Sydney, Katelyn, and Charlie;
three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister, Marie Nutter Higgins and brother, John “Jack” Nutter.
A visitation will take place on Friday evening from 6 to 8pm, July 10th at the McEwen Funeral Home-Mint Hill Chapel in Mint Hill, North Carolina then a memorial mass to celebrate his life will be held at 10am, Saturday, July 11th at Saint Luke’s Catholic Church in Mint Hill, North Carolina.
