He was a truck driver and manager of Carpenter Trucking Company, Inc. and Carpenter Storage until the company closed in 2000. He had a 40 year safe driving record. Lewis was a very hard working man who loved his family and especially playing with his grandchildren.
He enjoyed basketball and was an avid UNC Tarheel fan. A longtime member of Newell Baptist Church, he loved his church family and singing in the choir. Lewis loved Southern Gospel music and singing with the Renewell Quartet at church and other local places.
Lewis is survived by his wife Martha; son, Jim Carpenter (Geteia) of Harrisburg; daughters, Donna Jenkins of Mint Hill and Lisa Roberts of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Clint Carpenter (Shelley) of Mooresville, Keith Carpenter (Chelsea) of Harrisburg, Candice Carpenter of Harrisburg, Andrew Craddock and Morgan Craddock of Mint Hill; four great grandchildren, David, Jonathan, Kierstin, and Caden; brothers, Bobby Carpenter (Brenda) of Charlotte and Charles Carpenter of Harrisburg.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five until seven o'clock in the evening on Sunday, the 19th of April, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel.
The Service to celebrate his Homegoing will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 20th of April, at Newell Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Keith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
