Larry Weiland, the 3rd of 7 children, was born January 7th, 1950 to Lawrence and Verna Weiland of St. Bonifacius, MN. He passed peacefully on December 13th, 2022 in Tucson, AZ
Larry learned the value of hard work at a young age while growing up on the family farm milking cows, tending to fields, and helping his mother make egg noodles for the large Boula (aka Booyah) outdoor chicken soup making events they shared with family, friends, and neighbors. Because he valued hard work, he went on to serve in the Army before returning home to tend to the farm to support his father.
Larry started his own family in St. Bonifacius with wife Kathy Duffy and had children Michelle and Chad. The two later divorced amicably.
Larry used his knowledge and love of fixing things to build a career in plastic injection molding. He worked at Tonka Toys, Fluoroware, and Emplast in Minnesota. In addition he served the community as a Police Reserve Officer for Minnetrista, Minnesota.
In 1986 Larry married the love of his life, Judy Hall, which also expanded their family to include her children Shari, Peter, and Jenny. His family continued to grow as grandchildren came and his heart only grew with them. Nothing delighted him more than family and friends. Larry and Judy loved traveling and making memories, from trips to the North Shore with family to cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska with their cherished group of friends. Taking every opportunity to get out of Minnesota winters was so important to them, they decided to make it permanent and move to sunny Tucson, Arizona in 2001.
Larry loved having more time to play golf and soak in the sun while establishing roots there. His kind nature of helping friends and neighbors with many projects and fixing things, turned into a job as the retirement park’s handyman. He was so skilled in everything from yard maintenance to detailing a car and had his own special “Larry” way of doing it all!
Giving back to the community was important to Larry. One way he did this was his role as volunteer coordinator for the Red Cross. He always kept the patients and crew in good spirits by sharing jokes and laughing. He donated blood as often as he could as serving others was important to him.
Larry had a deep love for animals, especially the pets he and Judy shared. Holly, Luna, Lucy, and Rosie lit up his life, especially the bond he had with Lucy that couldn’t be broken even with her passing.
Larry and Judy decided to start splitting time between homes and spend the summer months in MN. This allowed him to spend more time with his grandchildren and now great grandchildren. The great grandchildren brought new love to his heart and a special twinkle to his eye. Getting together to enjoy a good meal, including his famous guacamole, and lots of laughter was everything to him.
Larry showed his strength and resilience over the last two years while fighting through tough diagnoses and treatments. His loving wife Judy of 36 years and family were alongside him every step of the way. Through the tough times, he kept his sense of humor and was always trying his best to get medical staff to laugh with him.
Larry is preceded in death by siblings Carol Weiland and Diane Weiland, parents Lawrence and Verna Weiland.
Larry is survived by his loving family; wife Judy Weiland, children Shari (Mike) Eischens, Peter (Erica) Thayer, Michelle (Kent) McLeland, Jen (Joe) Gallus, and Chad (Amanda) Weiland, siblings Rose (Jim) Jessen, Bill (Meredith) Weiland, Joe Weiland, and Laurie (Mike) Turner, 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
