Mark reminded me of some of his greatest memories, things that we forget about so that is the blessing in being the oldest child. I thought that I would share theses memories.
Stopping at the malt shop in Malmo. Dad didn’t like stopping there  though so we usually only stopped when he wasn’t with us. Unsweetened tea at cattle auctions that we attended. Ginormous glazed donuts from Zayre Shopper City grocery store when we were good in the store. Birthday parties at Shakeys Pizza and then Farrell’s ice cream right down the street. Burger baskets at the bowling alley while she bowled. Watching her and her friends play softball. Swimming with the Monjeau family at square lake and getting chiggers half of the time, but the crunch cones made up for it. Family swim night at the Cottage Grove Pool. Family bike rides to Grey Cloud Island. Here is a picture of Mark and Mom in their matching flannel dancing.

She was beautiful. I always thought I had a pretty Mom. She passed her beauty onto her kids...not a sleeper in the bunch.
She was highly intelligent. You needed to be careful playing board games or cards with her. She.d whip you before you knew what had happened.
She was a hard worker. ..Inspired everyone around her to work hard too.
She had a great laugh. A real belly laugh-if you know what I mean.
But my Mom touched my life in a remarkable way very early in my life.
She had a knack for being creative. She was artistic, there was artistry in everything she did. From making dinner plates for us kids-housework-yardwork-school projects-etc. If we were outside shoveling snow in Minnesota sub arctic temperatures or cutting wood...Mom made it a game. I marveled at this...and still do.
I still remember walking home from school. And running up driveway to see what kind of goodies she had stocked our big glass canisters with. Shiny red cinnamon jawbreakers. Licorice. Circus Peanuts.  M &M.s. etc It was like our own little candy store!
My Mom was neat like that! She might have done everything on a budget...But it all felt like million dollar gifts to me!
My Mom loved strawberries. She had a strawberry quilt that was absolutely gorgeous. So the other day I went out and bought myself this strawberry wreath to always remember her by. It may seem silly to some. But it's a symbol of of a little girls memories of her Mom's favorite thing. REST WELL MOM. Picking "bear"ies.
Was supposed to clean house but Mom said let's go find some berries and make jam. She always used little surprises like that to make our day. So we got in our old pick up and drove up and down back roads til we found some. There was this horrible smell there though. And a couple of trees knocked down. We wondered what the deal was. But there were huge clumps of berries everywhere there. So we just picked to our hearts content. That is until we saw the huge brown bear. We were in his territory. And we ran as fast as we could to truck and took off for home. When we got to driveway. My Mom clicked key off and just sat there before bursting into laughter.  We must have laughed for 15 minutes before going in house. Just me and my Mom.
