It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Lorraine B. Shean, age 89, of Greenville, South Carolina, who left us peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Lorraine was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, whose life was defined by her love for family, her boundless generosity, and her deep appreciation for the arts.
Born to Leroy Elwood Thompson and Gertrude O'Grady Thompson, Lorraine was the cherished sister of Roy, Jessie, Virginia, Ruthie, and Nancy. Throughout her life, Lorraine’s heart was full of love for her family, especially her two daughters, Laura Petersen and Karen Czarnecki. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Alita Vigfusson, Liana Tedder, Erik Vigfusson, Daniel Czarnecki, and Steven Czarnecki, and a great-grandmother to Bradan, Jared, Siobhan, Kaelin, Jordel, Ava, Isaiah, and Jackson. Lorraine was also blessed to be a great-great-grandmother to Kaly, Alex, Liliana, and Drew.
For over 30 years, Lorraine lived and worked in New York City, where she thrived in the world of the arts, nurturing her love for Broadway and music. Her passion for ballroom dancing was one of the greatest joys of her life. Lorraine was also a dedicated volunteer, giving her time to support veterans through the Veteran Bedside Network, bringing comfort and creativity to veterans’ hospitals throughout New York.
In her later years, Lorraine moved with her daughter Laura to SC to be closer to family. It was there that she continued to enjoy dancing and spending cherished moments with family and friends, embracing the simple pleasures of life with the same love and enthusiasm that defined her.
Lorraine’s warmth, kindness, and dedication to her loved ones will never be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, and a life well-lived, always putting others first and finding joy in the little things.
A visitation will be held for Lorraine on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, NY 11764.
