needed it. Teaching was his passion and the fight for equal rights was his cause. He advocated for union rights for all, especially the teaching profession. Joe started one of the first unions, in Central Islip, for teachers. This task was one of his greatest accomplishments. As a husband and a father he was outstanding! A little Irish stubbornness at times, but he rose to every occasion. Joe loved the horse racing world. He analyzed the racing form daily, and of course placed some wagers. You heard about the wins, but the losses were not discussed. He loved teaching! The countless emails from all his former students are endless. Joe made a huge impact on all his school families. Every parent requested him for their children. Joe was a legend in his time. The color red was his very favorite. In fact, at his retirement party all females wore red. Wow, what a blaze of color! Joe loved the politics of every nature. He was glued to the TV to absorb all the news. Morning Joe was one of his favorite shows. From 6 AM to 9 AM was his TV time. All he needed was his coffee and quiet. Watching the Mets play was a delight, especially when they won. Baseball and basketball were Joe's sports, hold on - not to play, but just to watch. Joe touched our lives in many ways. He nurtured, educated, guided, loved and loved forever.
