Joan Audrey Cummings of Mt. Sinai NY passed away October 31 at Stony Brook Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn NY and raised in Rockville Center, Joan graduated from Southside High School then Cortland State College and earned her masters degree at Stony Brook University. She enjoyed a 25 year career as an elementary school teacher in the Middle Country School District.
Joan and her late husband of 44 years, Wade, raised five sons; Wade, Keith, Todd, Darrin, and David. In addition to her sons, she is survived by 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Joan’s extended family, along with the family of her identical twin sister Alice, was the pride and joy of her life. She established a decades-long tradition of large family vacations which included as many as 50 happy revelers. These summer sojourns will continue in perpetuity as her lasting legacy.
Joan and Wade’s sailboat was aptly named Forever Young, inspired by the beautiful lyrics of Bob Dylan’s prayerful song. Strong, resilient, loving, and spirited; Joan will be Forever Young in our hearts.
