Dorothy Carley, a remarkable woman who lived a century and a year, passed away peacefully on August 10th, 2024. Dorothy's life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and a deep sense of adventure.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Henry J. Sass and Edward Carley, both Veterans who served their country with honor. She also faced the heartache of losing her children Jeffrey, Bernadette, and Jackie, and her siblings Alice, Mae, and Jack, who preceded her in death.
Despite these losses, Dorothy's life was rich and full. She leaves behind a big and beautiful family who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. Dorothy is survived by her cherished children: Christopher (Barbara), Andrea (Larry), Mary Jo (Joseph), Michael, Kevin (Maria), Dorothy (Louis), Theresa, and Joe (Kelly). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, each of whom she adored: Scott, Emily, Danielle, Paul, Steven, Jeremy, Matthew, Joseph, Christian, Andrea, Michael, David, Jason, Sarah, Abigail, Timothy, Desiree, Zachary, Jacob, and Annelise.
Dorothy's Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted parishioner, regularly attending Mass and participating in church activities. Her relationship with God was deeply cherished, providing her with unwavering strength, comfort, and guidance throughout her life. Dorothy's faith was reflected in the way she lived—always with grace, compassion, and a commitment to serving others.
Dorothy was a dedicated professional, working as a telephone operator and later as a medical transcriptionist, where her attention to detail and strong work ethic shone brightly.
Outside of her work, Dorothy had a zest for life and a wide array of hobbies. She was an avid reader, loved playing cards, solving puzzles, and enjoying bingo. Dorothy’s sense of adventure took her across the globe and the country. She cherished her travels to Holland, embarked on the Trans-Canada Rail tour, explored the rugged beauty of Alaska, and even traveled cross-country in an RV with a spouse, visiting every state in the Union.
Dorothy also believed in giving back to her community and spent many years volunteering at Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, where her kindness and dedication touched many lives.
In addition to her family, Dorothy had a beloved cat, Fidget, who was her faithful companion in her later years.
Dorothy Carley lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, faith and adventure. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family finds comfort in the knowledge that she is now reunited with those who passed before her and will forever cherish the memories of the remarkable woman she was.
