Hetty Hopkinson Edmonds. She graduated from South High School in 1941 and attended the University of Utah where she met her beloved husband, Joseph Gardner Angell. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1948 and had 2 sons. Joe died in 1956 from injuries sustained in World War II where he had received 2 purple hearts. Ruth thought he was pretty wonderful right from the beginning. He escorted her home from a University Ward Halloween party on the bus. When she got home Ruth woke up her parents and told them she had met a wonderful man and his last name was Angell. She told them that if she married him her last name would be Angell. Ruth was fortunate enough to have a wonderful brother by the name of Harry Edwin Edmonds who tried to be a father to her 2 sons, David and Dale. Unfortunately he drowned at Bear Lake in 1961. Prior to his death, he and Ruth invested in some real estate and also opened one of the first Laundromats in Salt Lake in the avenues area.
Ruth married Dr. Edward R. Grose in 1972. He died in 1979 from heart problems.
Ruth married Willis A Newbold in 1981. He worked for Kennecott for 41 years retiring in 1982. His wife had formerly worked for Dr Grose. He died in 2010.
Ruth loved to play the piano. She began playing for the 10th East Senior Citizen harmonica band in 1986 and played for them for over 20 years. The band has spent much time entertaining at churches, schools, senior centers, nursing homes, retirement homes, public functions and hospitals. One of her favorite church callings was playing for the little children in Primary. Ruth loved animals and especially dogs. In lieu of flowers, she would like people to donate to the Humane Society.
She is survived by her 2 sons, David (Myra) Angell and Dale (engaged to Karyn Felix) Angell, 5 grandchildren, Dan (Cara), Mary Ann (Sean Trease ) Mark (Amy), Melissa (Kenny Heath) and Matthew and 7 great grandchildren. Also 2 step daughters, Georgia Newbold Tooley (Larry), Cathy Newbold Eichbauer (Art) as well as many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
