Ronald Roger Hayes passed from this life peacefully on November 16, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. While his passing was due to several ailments, he passed without pain and in the comfort of his home.
Ron was born to Peter and Ruth Hayes on February 16th, 1935. Ron was raised on the west side of Salt Lake City, and has many fond memories of his childhood. Ron’s kind personality and wonderful spirit led him to make friendships there that continued throughout his life.
While serving in the U.S. Army, Ron gained a deep respect for God and his country. Through his service, Ron and Mary Lee became acquainted with Ed and Irene Longley, who continue to remain some of their dearest friends.
One of Ron’s most memorable qualities was his exceptional work ethic. He attended the University of Utah and was proud to be associated with his alma mater. As a young man he was hired to work at Western Airlines, later becoming Delta Airlines. He took great pride in knowing that he worked for a wonderful company, where he stayed and held many positions for 36 years. As a result, he held a deep love for aviation.
All throughout Ron’s life, he felt rooted to the great outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, mountain climber and backpacker. As often as he could, Ron spent his nights out of doors underneath a beautiful night sky and looking up at the stars.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ron was active in his callings. He particularly enjoyed working with the youth, and helping in the young men’s program.
Ron and Mary Lee loved to travel and had the opportunity to see many countries throughout the world. But what he loved most was their cabin in Kamas and enjoyed many weekends with family and friends, close to home.
Ron married Mary Lee Hayes on July 2, 1954. Ron and Mary Lee had many special and fun memories throughout their lifetime. They were sealed for all of time and eternity in the temple on their 60th anniversary. They walked through life together for 63 years before Ron’s passing. Their union was blessed with four children: Roger Lee Hayes (Lyn) and Laura Hayes Western (Mike), daughter Kathleen who passed away during infancy as well as a baby boy who died during birth. Grandpa Ron had six grandchildren (Colby, Jordan, Chris, Amanda, Josh and Mike) as well as three great grandchildren (Denny, Rowan and Weston). Ron is also survived by close friend and brother Gary Hayes (Marsha). His family will miss him tremendously.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Comfort Worx Hospice for their loving care. Additionally, the family is especially grateful for Jordan and Natalie for their continued kindness during this difficult time.
