Neil Raymond Moyes, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and beloved friend, graduated from mortality on Monday, December 9, 2024, at his home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 82 years old.
Born on August 12, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Neil was the son of Gordon Alexander and Wanda Abigail Moyes. He grew up in Salt Lake City. Neil’s love for skiing blossomed in his early years, and he took great joy in sharing his passion by teaching others the art of navigating snow-covered slopes. His connection to nature extended beyond skiing, as he nurtured a lifelong love for the outdoors that influenced his adventures and friendships throughout his life.
Neil attended South High School before continuing his education at the University of Utah. His sense of duty and commitment led him to serve his country honorably in the United States Army as a communications specialist, where he was honored to serve as a defender of America, a service he held in high regard. He loved his flag.
Neil’s faith and dedication to the Lord were unwavering. He served a mission in the Scotland Mission, where he shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with others, laying a foundation of service and devotion that he carried with him throughout his life.
On June 30, 1966, Neil married his eternal companion, Kathleen (Kathy) Burgon. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they raised a beautiful family of four boys and created a life rich in love, laughter, and service. Neil’s love for the gospel was evident in all he did, he devoted his life to serving the Lord and others through his steadfast faith and dedication to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His unwavering love for the gospel and his deep desire to bring the Spirit into the lives of those around him led him to hold numerous esteemed callings within the church. He and Kathy were blessed with the opportunity to serve three additional senior missions, culminating in their lifelong service to their faith and community. Whether through leadership, teaching, or quiet service, Neil’s commitment to his faith touched countless lives, leaving a lasting legacy of love, compassion, and devotion.
Professionally, Neil enjoyed a fulfilling career in sales, which eventually led to owning his own commercial industrial laundry equipment business. His passion for his work and the people he met along the way was evident in the lasting contributions he made. Neil’s work ethic and kindness earned him the respect and admiration of those who knew him. Many sought Neil’s advice, whether they needed guidance in their personal lives or professional careers.
Generous and kind to everyone, Neil was lovingly known by many as “Uncle Neil.” He had a great sense of humor, often bringing laughter and joy to those around him. His warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. When he walked into a room, his presence was felt.
Later in life, Neil continued his love of the outdoors through activities such as boating, camping, hunting, fishing, and ATVing. These outdoor adventures were his greatest joy, especially when shared with his family. Neil was deeply devoted to his family, cherishing every moment spent together. He was also an animal lover and always had a dog by his side. His last faithful dog, Gertee, was a constant companion and best friend.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; children: Mike (Hsiou) Moyes, Darin (Kristina) Moyes, Brad Moyes, and Shaun (Myranda) Moyes; 12 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gordon Robert (Rae) Moyes.
Viewing services will be held December 15 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and December 16 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by funeral services at 12:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9575 South 3100 East, Sandy, UT. Interment will take place at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Neil will be deeply missed by all, especially his family, dear friends, and faith community. He was a true patriot, a man of great character, and a beloved friend to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
