He was born on September 13, 1948 in Wichita, Kansas to Gough Whitaker and Mary Jane Mason Davis. He graduated from North High School in 1966. He then attended Wichita State University. In Wichita, Mike made many lifelong friends. He met his first wife, Christine Brand, and they married in 1972. They moved from Wichita to Salt Lake City where he attended the University of Utah and started his own business, Davis Concrete Pumping. In 1975 he and Chris had his first child, Maggie. They later divorced. In 1982 he met his wife of 40 years, the love of his life, Rebecca Ann Wing. They married in 1983 and had two children, Joseph Michael and Jessica Ann. Mike and Becky raised all three children in our beloved Sugarhouse neighborhood in Salt Lake. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. He retired in 2018. Mike was very loving and full of joy. He made friends easily and had a positive outlook on life. Many will remember fondly sharing bad jokes and good wine with Mike.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Hibbard. He is survived by his wife, Becky and children, Maggie, Joey (Annah) and Jessie; sisters Anita, Mary Jane and Patty Davis, Judy Nease (Jerry), Nancy Castellino (Steve), Teresa Mapes (Marty) and his brother Gough.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, March 13 at 1:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106. Viewings will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Sunday, March 12 from 6 - 8 pm and Monday, from noon - 1 prior to the service. The interment will be held immediately following the service.
